"If you were to press your heart close up against somebody else’s heart eventually your hearts will start beating at the same time. And two little babies in an incubator, their hearts will beat at the same time. Love that. So if you have somebody in your life that is prone to anxiety, like myself, and if you happen to be a calm person, you could come up and hug me heart to heart and my heart hopefully would slow to yours. And I just love that idea. Or maybe yours would speed up to mine. But either way, we’ll be there together."

Have you ever heard of the woman who was given the title “the martyr” even though she haven’t died a shaheeda [female martyr] yet… but she was known by this title and the Messenger of Allaah Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam along with the great Sahabah Radiyallahu Anhum would only address her with this title, the martyr?

Ma sha Allaah, and this woman didn’t even go and battled out in Jihad, for the when she tried to ask permission from Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam to go and join the battle of Badr with the intention to nurse and help out with medical attention the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam declined and told her;

"Stay in your house, Allaah will bless you with martyrdom."

Do you have any clue now, who this blessed woman was?

Ma sha Allaah, yes, I am talking about Umm Waraqah Radiyallahu Anha, the woman who devoted all her life in increasing her closeness to Allaah Azza Wa Jall through living and dedicating herself with the Qur’aan.

By Allaah, this woman devoted her attention to the Noble Qur’aan reading it, memorizing it and following its teachings and rules, she has made it her main concern in all aspects of her private and public life, and through the Qur’aan she also attained a high and noble status.

Umm Waraqah was one of the earliest Ansari female companion that entered the fold of Islaam, she was of high and noble lineage and indeed she was a very wealthy woman, but her luxuries in life didn’t shun her from devoting herself solely to things that will bring her closely to Allaah Azza Wa Jall.

And we ask, how come she was called “the martyr” when she was alive throughout the prophethood of Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam, the caliphate of Abu Bakr Radiyallahu Anhu up to the caliphate of ‘Umar Ibn Al Khattab Radiyallahu Anhu?

Well, after that incident of her asking Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam to allow her to go for jihad and was declined and told to stay in her house for she will be blessed with martyrdom by Allaah Azza Wa Jall, she believed and obeyed.

Umm Waraqah Radiyallahu Anha stayed in her house and devoted her time to her scripts [surahs of the Qur’aan were written], reciting their verses with humbleness and piety. With the passing of each day, she increases in her closeness to Allaah Azza wa jall in her piety.

She asked for a mu’adhhin for her house one day, and the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam gave her one, and she allocated a section of her big house as a praying area, and she would make this place a place for halaqa and she would lead some Muslim women of her family and her female relatives or whomsoever who came to meet her in her house for prayers.

Umm Waraqah was not married, despite her nobility, wealth and everything she had, for she was deeply influenced by the picture of the bliss of Paradise that never changes or comes to an end, but she had one housemaid and one male servant who served her in her big house, but these two were not different to her, she treated them like a mother would treat her children.

She used to sleep every little in the night, despite her old age and in hours of darkness she would seek Allaah’s forgiveness and worship Him in humbleness, and every night she would pray and recite the Qur’aan unceasingly.

One night, a caller called, "Come to martyrdom, O’ Umm Waraqah! The time has come and your appointment with death is here! The earth is confined for you in spite of its vastness! What is with Allah is best and lasting! You certainly have nearness to Allah and good place of return!"

On that very night, her servant and the maid stood up and strangled Umm Waraqah to death, they then wrapped her in a piece of cloth and put her at a side of the house and fled.

'Umar Radiyallahu Anhu, who was the Ameer ul Mu'mineen of that time, woke up for Fajr and observed something that attracted his attention, when he finished praying he went out and told the people, "By Allaah I did not hear the recitation of my aunty Umm Waraqah last night!"

It was by this that He came to her house in the company of some other Sahabah Radiyallahu Anhum to see what has happened to Umm Waraqah. When they entered, they found no one and they did not hear any movement. It was then that ‘Umar sensed that something happened to her!

And suddenly they found her wrapped in a piece of cloth, dead.

'Umar Radiyallahu Anhu then said, “Allah and His Messenger said the truth!” and those who were with him echoed, “Allah and His Messenger said the truth!”

Subhan’Allaah! Did she die in vain? No she didn’t! For Paradise was her abode! What a beautiful and inspiring woman was Umm Waraqah! We pray to Allaah Azza Wa Jall that she accepts her and raises her status in Jannah! Amin

So many beautiful points to consider in this story, her love for Allaah Azza Wa Jall, her obedience towards the Messenger of Allaah Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam, her devotion to the Qur’aan, her dawah to other women and her kind treatment to her servants.

So much beautiful characters had Umm Waraqah bagged in her life! Ma sha Allaah, and her devotion to the Qur’aan was of great dedication, imagine, ‘Umar Radiyallahu Anhu noticed immediately something wrong when he didn’t hear the recitation of Umm Waraqah, so realize that she has been consistently doing this recitation every night, when some of us can’t even stand even listening to 3 minutes of recitation of the Qur’aan!

Wallahi, my brothers and sisters in Islam, these are the kind of people that we should be inspired from, people we should take our deen from, martyrdom isn’t just about going to battles, for we ourselves are already in jihad with our nafs.

I ask you all, to please mention the name of Umm Waraqah in your du’as in your next salaah, may Allaah Azza Wa Jall be truly pleased with her. Amin

Excerpt from Women around the messenger of Allah, pp. 194-199

You mean everything to me.

I love you.

You are my life.

Beautiful heavy words, right?

Does this make you feel nice and loved, important to the person who tells you? Does it make you feel you’re valuable?

Alhamdulillaah. of course it will make us feel valuable but do not dive into it much, do not drown yourself to it so much, remember the state of a person’s qalb [heart] changes faster than the boiling of water.

There will be people who will come to you and make you feel the most beautiful feelings, love, happiness and all that bliss, but remember these people will still eventually leave, if you do not leave first then they might, indeed as our beloved Nabi Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam said, always remember death for that is the killer of all desires.

The people you love, your parents, your siblings, your husband, your children, relatives, not everyone will stay in this world, they will eventually leave, some of them may value you and some may not, and i’m not saying this to discourage or anything but this is the reality, the bitter truth and because i don’t want to comfort anyone with a lie.

I have seen and been told of parents who do not value their children, likewise with children who do not value their parents. Astagfirullaah. What has the world become? They value their friends over their parents, they value their status over their children. Authubillah!

You are here, reading this, and I want to let you know that you are one valuable person. If not to them, or to me or to anyone else, then be sure that to Allaah Azza Wa Jall you are VALUABLE! So never tell yourself, you are not, because the One Who Created the world and all that exists values your existence! What better thing is there than knowing that your Creator values you!

Know that you are not a mere creation for you are a creation that worships Allaah Azza Wa Jall, a person who submits and recognizes that there is only one God, Allaah Azza Wa Jall and His Messenger is Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam.

People in this world, even how much effort you do and fame and all these things they will never be fully satisfied, so do not drown yourself, do not give in yourself fully to these things, rather submit yourself to Allaah Azza Wa Jall, bow down and prostrate for indeed by the time you say Allahu’akbar when you start to pray Allaah Azza Wa Jall brags about you in the heavens among thousands and thousands of angels He says, LOOK AT MY SLAVE, He worships me!

Subhan’Allaah little do we realize how much pleasure we have given Allaah Azza Wa Jall, with that little action of us raising our hands and surrendering ourselves to Him! Do you get this from people of this dunya? Do we get little even little appreciation when we smile to them? People would even shun their faces or give a bitter look! Astagrifullaah!

You are valuable, maybe not to this world, but the owner of this world truly values you, so why not give all these effort you are doing to please the people of the dunya to the one who truly deserves your effort, to the One who with little effort gives you a handful of reward, that with the utterance of Alhamdulillaah, you are rewarded! Subhan’Allaah!

O my dear brothers and sisters in Islam, if you know someone who feels less of a value, or if you yourself feel you are given less of the value, then BOW DOWN and PROSTRATE to Allaah Azza Wa Jall and I tell you once you raise your head from your sujood, you will feel this indescribable feeling of relief that only Allaah Azza Wa Jall can give and only through sujood can you find!

Do not try so much to get value from the world, from dunya, when you know that dunya itself is nothing but the lowest, so rather than chase and give all these efforts for dunya to value you… GIVE IT TO ALLAAH AZZA WA JALL! START NOW! not tomorrow, not later, Right now!

At the end of the day, just ask yourself…

He (Allah Azza Wa Jall) values you, but do you value Him?

And we pray to Allah Azza Wa Jall that we become among the grateful servants who finds comfort in performing ibadah and salah to Him, and that may we become people who chase for Jannah rather than the worldly life.

Ever felt tears roll down your cheeks for a du’a you’ve made?

Ever felt that intense need of Him? That moment when you just want to put your head on the ground and ask of Him, His Help, His Mercy? Or you just wanted to thank Him for absolutely everything?

What a beautiful moment right?

By Allah, that is a moment where you have lived your life.

A lot of people say that they couldn’t cry when they make du’a, yes it is a not a requirement that you cry when you make du’a but it is an effect that the heart does to the eyes when it speaks to Allah Azza Wa Jall.

Above, you see pictures of people crying while they are making du’a, rare moments, I tell you, that are captured by the camera.

When you see a person who makes du’a and suddenly he or she cries, what do you feel?

Yes, you feel little attached and you want to comfort them, it’s same feeling that such pictures above brings you.

I know that when you see a picture like this, it makes your heart burn and later on it makes you feel their need and then tears fall from your eyes. Why?

Because you know in yourself that you are ever needful of a moment like that. You need such strong connection with Him that when you mention His Name, your heart humbles itself, that when you hear of His Mercy, you beg for it and when you hear of His Rewards, you ask of Him like you have never asked anyone before.

You need that moment, where you find only yourself and Him and nothing else, and I tell you, a sincere du’a will give you this moment. It is not rare, you can get it every single time that you make your heart speak to Him in every dua.

Your heart will ever be connected to Him, that even if you don’t remember Him, your heart does, for every beat it makes it calls upon Allah Azza Wa Jall, remember the sound it makes, its not tic toc but Rubb Rubb Rubb, The Name of Your Lord! Subhan’Allah.

When you make your heart speak, you reunite your heart and Allah Azza Wa Jall, you reconnect your soul to your Creator, and you hold stronger to His Rope, that is such the strength that only in du’a you can find.

Believe me, my brother and sister in Islam, when you have stumbled and have lost your way for a moment, then I’m telling you, yes never give up your salaah but also it takes only one sincere du’a to bring you back to your feet.

So my brothers and sisters in Islam, it is the blessed month of Ramadhan, I ask of you to make the most out of it, make every du’a the sincerest ones, and I tell you, that rare moment and that hard thing to do (to cry while making du’a) it will come naturally.

Redeem your soul, reconnect your heart to its Rubb, for calls for Him every single beat.

Let the tears fall. Let Him cleanse you.

And so i leave you with a short du’a but one of the most poignant ones, a du’a that Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam taught Mu’adh Ibn Jabal Radiyallahu Anhu;

Allahumma Aini Ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni ibadatika.

O Allah help me to remember You, to thank You and to worship You properly.

And I pray this Ramadhan becomes a moment of cleansing for your soul, that with His Mercy showering upon us, we find a moment of sincere gratitude and love towards Him.

Subhan’Allah. Just everytime, every single time I stumble upon this it never fails to pinch my heart and bring tears to my eyes.
Let me tell you the whole story of this photo.
This incident happened during the time of the Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam.
One day, a man went up to the Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam and complained about his father who takes everything that he earns. So the Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam told the man to go and bring his father to him.
On the man’s way back to get his father, Angel Jibrail Alaihi Salaam came down and told the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalam: “when the old man comes, ask him what he was murmuring on his way here.”
So when the old man came, the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam asked him: “Is it true what your son has been telling?”
The old man answered: “Ya Rasulullah! Yes it is true, I give it to her aunt that lives alone and no one to take care of…”
The Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam then asked: “On your way here, what were you murmuring?”
When he finished saying all those words, wallah, as the narration said, Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam’s beard was soaked with tears and couldn’t speak for some time.
After that he grabbed the man on his neck and told him, “Everything that you own belongs to your father.” ____
Wallah, I never forget this story for it has such deepness, the love of our parents is just amazing, may we all realize this soonest, and not on the time when everything is too late.
We are amazed with the love of our parents for us, then imagine when it is said that Allah Azza Wa Jall loves us more than our parents could ever love us. Allahu’akbar! Al Wadood!
And I pray this story would always bring us back to our feet. No matter how high of a status we will get in this dunya, remember it is from Allah and from the efforts that our parents have given for us.
Yes, go and kiss your parents and thank them, for simply taking care of you all these years.
